CT (Computed tomography ) - Scan

CT scan, also called a CAT scan, obtains multiple cross-sectional images by using x-rays and computer enhancement. A CT scan creates an image that is much more sensitive than a regular x-ray. It works by x-raying the patient from many different angles and compiling the information in a computer.

The computer makes an image that can be viewed on a screen or printed out as a photograph. The image produced looks like a “slice” of the body, usually the abdomen, chest or head. CT scans reveal both bone and soft tissues, including organs, muscles, and tumors. Image tones can be adjusted to highlight tissues of similar density, and, through graphics software, the data from multiple cross-sections can be assembled into 3-D images. Your physician will use these images to rule out or confirm the presence of certain abnormalities or diseases.
